Chairman and Town Mayor:

Cllr Mrs Sharon Spencer

Being elected mayor of Oakham is an honour and a great privilege; I am the fifth generation to be born in Oakham on my mother's side of the family. My roots in Oakham have been traced back to 1854.I have been married to Nigel, for over 24 years, we met when we were at Catmose College and we have two boys Jonathan 19 and Christopher 10 1/2.

I was co-opted to the Council in August 2006 and then stood for election in 2007. I am passionate about helping the young people in the Town.

I led the project to install play equipment in the toddler area in Cutts Close  in 2008, I have been involved in the Playbuilder initiative in Royce’s Recreational park this year for 8-13 year olds, and we are currently awaiting English Heritage permission to install some additional small pieces of equipment for 8-13 in Cutts Close.

With the Town Council I have been involved in many projects we are currently working on including the bandstand refurbishment in Cutts Close.  It is my hope that many years of enjoyment for young and those not so young, will be had from the concerts that the Town Council arrange.

I am employed as an accountant for a local NHS organisation. I am an Assistant District Commissioner for Rutland Scouts, having been involved in Scouting for over 15 years.

The Mayors Charity for this year is The Hope Foundation for Cancer Research which is committed to providing funding for cancer research projects in Leicestershire and Rutland in order to enable local people to benefit from innovative treatments.
